How to Advertise in the MTL

Start My Subscription Now!

What to Have Ready

  • Unless you are simply renewing, you will need product information in PDF format of no more than 2 megabytes in size per file. We suggest breaking large files up into smaller ones that focus on one product or product type per file. You will need to know the total number of pages in your files.
  • A short paragraph (no more than 500 characters) about your company, which will appear on your company profile page.
  • Optionally, new participants will need a small company logo in gif or jpeg format of no more than 100kb in size.
  • Optionally, you may wish to have a credit card or purchase order number ready if you want to use either for payment processing.

What is the Process?

  • Click the Start My Subscription Now! button at the top of the page. This will open a screen that walks you through the subscription process.
  • You will be asked to enter your email address and choose a password. Your email address will be kept confidential (see our email privacy policy). This address will be used to send you your password if you forget it in the future, and it will act as your user name when logging in to manage your account later. This is particularly important when using the email address and password entered on this screen to log in and make file changes throughout the subscription year.
  • On the Contact Information page, renewing MTL advertisers will be able to change/confirm contact information, while all others will fill in basic details here.
  • Next, the Account Details screen allows you to enter the descriptive paragraph that will appear on your company profile page; review/replace a current logo; renew the same files or enter the total number of pages to be inserted this year.
  • PDF files are uploaded one at a time on the next screen, which concludes with the option to upload another file or continue. For each PDF file, you will be asked to enter a title (which will be displayed as your PDF link) and choose all the appropriate categories to associate with this file for search purposes. Categories that are selected inappropriately will be removed. Uploads will be rejected if they are not in PDF format or they exceed 2 megabytes in size.
  • Lastly, you will choose payment options. If you prefer to pay by credit card, you may use our secure online connection to do so. If you prefer to be invoiced, you have the option of entering a purchase order number if your accounting department requires it.
  • That's it! If you need to make changes to your MTL subscription later, you will use the Manage My Subscription button to log in and edit your options, upload new files, etc.

Company Logos

Logos should be:

  • No more than 400 pixels in width.
  • No more than 100 pixels in height.
  • In gif or jpeg format.

Previous MTL advertisers will likely not need to provide a new logo; however, they may provide a replacement if they wish. A logo is not required for MTL participation.

Appropriate Literature for the MTL

The MTL Product Catalog is intended to be reference library of technical insulation product literature available to end users seeking information about insulation products for projects. Companies should upload PDFs that provide specific technical data on their company's product(s) or product line. Technical brochures about specific products shall be uploaded. Companies should avoid negative product comparisons. The National Insulation Association (NIA) is a not-for-profit trade association representing both the merit (open shop) and union contractors, distributors, metal building laminators, fabricators, and manufacturers that provide thermal insulation, insulation accessories, and components to the commercial, mechanical, and industrial markets throughout the nation. NIA is the voice of the insulation industry and is dedicated to keeping the commercial and industrial insulation industry up to date on the latest industry trends and technologies. As such, NIA strives to promote the value of insulation and the positive aspects of the industry.

The MTL Product Catalog is not a forum. Commentary on the industry, regulatory agencies, competitors' products, or standards setting groups is not appropriate and will not be accepted. The MTL is restricted to promotional materials for participating advertisers' products.

NIA Policies

All NIA policies including the NIA Antitrust Compliance Policy and the NIA Advertising Policy apply to all advertising opportunities provided by the NIA including the MTL Product Catalog. Advertisers and advertising agencies assume responsibility for the content of their ad and all liability, whether contractual, regulatory or arising in tort, for all content of advertisements, and also assume responsibility for any claims arising therefrom against NIA. NIA assumes no liability for injury, damage, loss, accident, delay, or irregularity for any reason whatsoever arising from any advertising material.

NIA reserves the right to reject any advertising material, at its sole discretion. Advertisers are welcome to submit new materials if their PDFs are rejected.

The appearance of an advertisement and/or a product or service information on the MTL Product Catalog, www.insulationoutlook.com, www.insulation.org, or in any NIA advertising medium is not a guarantee or endorsement by NIA of a product or service or the claims made by an advertiser.

PDF Files

PDF (Portable Document Format) is a special file format chosen specifically for its ability to preserve the original formatting of a document for display and especially for printing purposes. This allows you to display your brochure literature as the designer intended them to be seen. For more information about PDF files, visit the PDF help page.

Here are some tips for making the most of your PDF files.

  • Break up your files so that there is one file per product. You wouldn't want someone to miss your valuable products because they failed to page through one large file to the product of interest. Multiple files allow the user to browse products quickly and download only the files they need. Users can also go to your company page, which contains all your company’s information and product literature.
  • Reduce file size for quicker download. This can be done by following the advice above, in addition to reducing the overall number of photos and other large images. The person creating your PDF file can compress and screen optimize your files.
  • Consider editing your files specifically for onscreen viewing. For example, beautiful cover art becomes burdensome and annoying when the end user has to wait a long time for it to download, only to find it contains no useful information. Typically, people viewing onscreen want facts as quickly as possible.
  • You can control the "view" that users will see when they first open your PDF file by making sure the file is in your chosen view and magnification when you initially save it as a PDF. Your graphic design team should be able to help.
